Careers

The Terrace is committed to the highest standards of hospitality. We are genuinely passionate about organising, training and supporting a team that can take pride in first class food and service. Our goal is to create a standard for Island hospitality that stays with each team member throughout their careers.

We over rather than under-staff. Our front of house never work more than six tables at one time with full support from runners and bar, and our chefs can all opt for a four-day week. We are committed to avoiding seasonal-only employment - being located in a town that sees visitor number soar in summer should not mean we can’t offer year-round employment for the team that make The Terrace what it is. Our staff retain 100% of tips and split them across the entire team based on role type and monthly hours.

Front of House & Bar Team
You’ll work one week as a runner and bar back, getting to know our service steps, drink offering and menu and building comfort with your new workplace and colleagues. We will gradually give you full ownership of tables, then of your own section. You’ll greet guests, explain menus, dishes and allergens, answer questions, take orders, deliver food and drink and clear tables, all with complete attention to each individual diner’s and team member’s experience. If you work bar you’ll learn to make barista-level coffee to the highest standards and get a say in the cocktails we serve or even the wines if that interests you. If this sounds like the sort of role you’d enjoy (by the sea in Yarmouth!) please do email us on info@theterraceiow.co.uk to apply.

Kitchen Porters & Cleaners
The most important role in our restaurant is the one that makes all the others possible. Without our team of Kitchen Porters there would be no cooking and no service. We give our KPs an equal share of tips to reflect this. The role involves making sure that every single item used to operate our restaurant is sparkling clean - from plates to cups to gastros to pots and pans. We have a brand new dishwasher with ample storage and drainage facilities that you’ll find simple to use and operate. You’ll also help with general cleaning jobs around the restaurant such as disposing of packaging, emptying bins and keeping our terrace clean. We are really open to KPs doing some work in the kitchen and helping out with bread, desserts or fish prep, so if this interests you we are happy to offer training. We can offer flexible hours - including cleaning shifts from 7-9am and 4-5pm if you want them) in a clean, open environment with a very supportive team, and really good tips. If this sounds like a role for you please do email us on info@theterraceiow.co.uk to have a chat.

Chefs
Managed by Roux Scholar, Matthew Tomkinson, The Terrace’s kitchen produces food for up to 300 diners daily, seven days a week and is staffed by 3-8 chefs depending on time of year. Everything is made from scratch including all bread, pastry and sauces, and we increasingly process more and more of our meat and fish in-house. Our menus are focused on making simple, classic dishes delicious using the best produce possible. We give each section input into dishes and rely on their stock management and feedback to drive our specials. Our team work 50-hour weeks across four-five days. We have high standards for quality and care in the kitchen and we don’t cut corners. We help our staff develop their skills and are always open to ideas. If this sounds like the sort of environment you’d enjoy working in (by the sea in Yarmouth!) we would love to hear from you. Hours can be 9-5 because of the nature of the work but equally can be 9am-9pm if that is your preference. Email us on info@theterraceiow.co.uk to apply.
